Halden started in 2018 with one product: a leather chukka boot, made by a factory in Almansa that had been closing for a decade.

What we actually do

We design a small range across four categories — footwear, bags, apparel and watches — and commission it from four workshops we know by name. A shoe factory in Almansa, Spain. A leather goods shop in Tuscany. A knitwear mill in the Scottish Borders. A watch assembler in Biel, Switzerland.

We do not design for seasons. A piece enters the range when it is genuinely better than the alternative, and it leaves only when a material becomes unavailable. Nine of our twenty-four products have been in the range since the first year.

Materials

Vegetable-tanned and full-grain leather, never corrected grain. Extra-fine merino from a mill that publishes its supply chain. 14 oz selvedge denim from a Japanese mill. Sapphire crystal and Miyota movements — nothing we would be embarrassed to have serviced.

Where we cannot source something responsibly, we change the product rather than the sourcing.

Repairs

Every piece can be sent back for repair. Goodyear-welted soles are rebuilt. Straps and clasps are replaced. We charge postage and parts cost, nothing else, for as long as you own it. In 2025 we completed 1,412 repairs.

Unit 4, Halden Works, Portland, Oregon. The workshop is open to visitors on the first Saturday of each month.
